So, I know that this isn’t an AMA, but I have some questions if you don’t mind answering them!
I have wanted to get into star trail photography for a while. However, I do not know what kind of results I could get with my current equipment.
For my DSLR I have an older Olympus E-300 (yes, my dad, my brother, and I are probably the three only people I know that own those!). It is known for having some nasty noise, and at only 8 megapixel, I’m not sure how great of a final image I could get. Any thoughts? I would have to buy a $50 timer to give it a go, and don’t want to drop $50 only to find that it would be impossible for me to get any good shots.
I also have a Pentax WG-3 GPS camera (that I bought for kite aerial photography), which I thought I might be able to use as it has a built in intervelometer (which is why I bought it for KAP). Unfortunately it has a minimum 10 second delay and when you set it on intervelometer mode I believe it must stay on “automatic” shooting, not allowing for long exposures. Physically holding the shutter release down while on night mode limits it to 3 consecutive shots I believe… I assume that this camera would be useless for startrails.
I appreciate any help!
